Beauty Review // Dulce Lash Boutique & Spa

It comes with the territory. Today's modern woman is on a constant quest for the easiest and “most natural” way to look gorgeous. Long, thick and glamorous eyelashes have been an obsession of mine since….well, since I learned how to put on mascara in the fifth grade. Being a natural {dirty} blonde, my natural lashes have always been too short, too thin, too blonde and basically nonexistent. If it weren't for mascara and lash curlers, I don’t think I would ever leave my house {without a pair of sunglasses, at least}. That said the whole mascara and curling process can take a lot more time and effort than you’d think—definitely more than I’d like to spend every morning, anyway. #firstworldmommaproblems, much?

There’s hope though, for those of us whose eyelashes ride the short yellow bus thanks to the beauty world and its ability to come up with solutions to every beauty woe, and with lash extensions becoming more popular, you can wake up with pretty lashes every day {without having to do anything to them}. Look, I know that most of you fabulous ladies out there may wake up an hour or two before it’s time to leave the house in the morning and you can take your time getting beautified, but all of the Momma’s out there know that once that sweet little babe of yours is awake, there is very little time and not enough hands to get yourself looking pretty. So when the opportunity dropped into my lap to get eyelash extensions at Dulce Lash Boutique and Spa I was SUPER excited, to say the least. I've known plenty of people with eyelash extensions and I wondered whether they would give my eyes the oomph they needed {and I wanted}.

When I arrived at the salon, I was greeted by Lizette Rodriguez, the eyelash expert. Lizette is a naturally gorgeous esthetician who explained to me a little of what she would be doing, the process itself and described it as a nice little 2 hour sleep session. It was 10:00am on a Saturday morning, I could definitely handle that. I almost felt like I was about undergo surgery as I lay down on the bed and she brought a lamp over my face. Eyelash extensions, unlike the fake strip eyelashes you get from the drugstore, are more natural looking because the esthetician glues each individual lash to your natural eyelashes. The whole process took about 2 hours but it was almost kind of meditative to be lying on the table, chatting with her about life and everything else, and not worrying about anything in the real world.

This is my before pic. Obviously my lashes {or lack there of} are thin and sparse.

Lizette is a long time friend of mine and the owner of Dulce Lash Boutique and Spa and she assured me that I was going to be in LOVE with my lashes once they were finished. When she was done, I looked in the mirror and was shocked. It was subtle, but there it was – long, thick, luscious lashes peeking out of my eyelids. They did indeed look GORGEOUS and I was IN LOVE!

Now, eyelash extensions can be seriously addicting – once you get them, you can’t just go back to your stubby looking, God-given eyelashes because they just don’t compare to eyelashes like woah! Am I right? Eyelash-wise, I went from Tilda Swinton to Mila Kunis. No joke. It was that serious. Now,  I can freely admit, I have the addiction. That day I didn't wear any makeup and I still felt confident and pretty, which is something I usually don’t feel when I am going Au natural out in public. I suddenly felt just a bit more alluring, just by virtue of the fact that my eyes were now more winsome.

This photo was taken the day after with a touch of mascara. SO.MUCH.BETTER.

Since this was my first time having the procedure done, I definitely had a lot of questions regarding the application and after-care process. Lizette did an amazing job at the application and she was kind enough to answer all of my questions during and after the process.

WHAT ARE THEY? Lash extensions extend the length of your lashes or longer if that’s the look you are going for {duh} to make them look thicker and fuller. Depending on the look you want you can have more lashes applied to certain areas of the eye, I wanted a more cat-eye look so I had longer lashes added to the ends of my eye for a more dramatic effect. Each individual lash hair is carefully glued to your own natural eyelash using a special lash bonding adhesive. {Many places use real mink hair for the eyelashes, which is what I got and I recommend}, but there are also synthetic lashes as well.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE? About 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

AFTER CARE PROCESS? It takes 24 for the adhesive to fully set, so your eyes can’t have any contact with water or oil for that period of time. Washing your eyes/swimming/crying is a HUGE no-no for a couple of days and yes, I know it sounds impossible, but I swear that will probably be the hardest part of this whole process. Once the glue completely sets, you can do whatever you please with your new babies.

HOW LONG DO THEY LAST? I think the best part about lash extensions is that they last about four to six weeks depending on how well you take care of them. You’ll find they’ll start to fall out after 2.5 weeks due to your natural lash cycle—but of course you can always get them re-done to keep your lashes looking nice and lush. I’m at my 2 week mark and I have had some fall out but they STILL look gorgeous and full. If you can avoid sleeping on your face and scrubbing or touching your eyes often, they’ll last a bit longer.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS? I was a bit skeptical of lash extensions at first because I didn't know if there would be any side effects—and by side effects, I mean having all of my lashes fall out. That’s happened to me before with the falsies that funny Vietnamese lady on the East Side used to put on me and eeeek! Could you blame me? I didn't want to go from having barely any lashes to beautiful ones to none at all…again. So for those who have the same irrational fears, no worries—this won’t happen, except maybe you’ll experience lush-lash withdrawal later on when they fall out! If you want to make sure you have no lash nightmares, I’d suggest that you go to a reputable salon, with skilled technicians. A salon like Dulce Lash Boutique and Spa. You will not, I repeat, will not be disappointed!

Thank you SO much to Lizette for the amazing job you did on my lashes! I could not have been happier or more satisfied with my experience and my new gorgeous lashes!

Here are a couple more "after" pics.
